My MBP13 runs hot. Seen it go up to 84deg C ( iStat Pro System Monitor widget).

I am sure physics applies equally to Mac Books as any other device with a silicon chip. This amount of heat can reduce the economic life of the unit (significantly in some cases).

Usually, I just stick something rectangular and flat, about 1+ inch thick, under the rear of the MBP (where the black strip and hot air egress vent is) to get additional cooling for the unit. Something you cannot readily find away from home or the office and sometimes what you do find us not that stable, to be used under a laptop.

However, High Sierra’s installer would not install at all. Users could install High Sierra onto a standard non RAID volume, and use a program like Carbon Copy Cloner to clone the OS onto the SoftRAID volume and from then on it would work normally. With 10.13.4, High Sierra prevented Mac OS X updates from being installed onto SoftRAID volumes. The Add Virtual RAID in Data Rescue Professional allows you to simulate a RAID configuration based on the RAID functionality built into Mac OS. This is helpful in case a RAID configuration fails to mount or be recognized as a single volume. Note: Add Virtual RAID does not attempt to fix or repair a RAID set. Instead, the RAID is configured through Data Rescue for the purpose of scanning for data.

Old and good friend of mine – PC – showed me a novel solution.

Get a squash ball. (about $5 from Rebel Sports) or you can harass your local squash court for a used one, then find a carpet knife (if no one is looking the bread knife).

Slice the squash ball into half. Careful as the blade may slip off the ball and it will all end up in blood and tears. To be absolutely safe – jam the ball in a doorway, using the door and the door jamb as a makeshift vice and slice to your hearts content.

Sliced Ball

You can guess the rest.

The good thing about using a squash ball is that they are made of rubber and have a grippy surface, so they tend to stay put. When placed at the corners to support a MBP, they make for a very stable rig.

This is my MBP sitting on one of the halves of the ball. Good amount of space for a bit of additional airflow to the hottest part of the unit.

Corner Protection

But wait there is more.

To carry them around, I cup them over the edges of the MBP. They give additional protection to the corners of the MBP.

Cute and tough to beat for just AUD$5 .

All thanks goes to PC.
